Showcase

7 Mao Plaza

It is a façade renovation project. After the main structure had been completed, the owner found the original exterior design was not attractive enough as a commercial building and commissioned us to redesign the architecture skin to shape a small landmark building without changing the structure.

On the completed structure, there were many raised floor slabs for air conditioning outdoor units and many vertical exhaust ducts. The owner agreed to eliminate the floor slabs, but insisted on keeping the exhaust ducts to maintain the possibility of using the building as a restaurant. With this in mind, we adopted a formal language of vertical volumes that could accommodate the exhaust ducts, with rhythmic repetition and variation on the façade and roof, resulting in a dynamic overall form.

The red color of the building is intended to help enhance its recognizability in a high-density urban environment and bring a sense of warmth to a city where the minimum winter temperature is -30 degrees.
