Te Kura Māori o Porirua Hall Seismic Upgrade & Refurbishment Project

The seismic strengthening and comprehensive refurbishment of the hall at Te Kura Māori o Porirua has transformed this vital community space into a modern, accessible facility that honours its cultural significance.

Every surface was renewed during the structural upgrade, creating an opportunity to make substantial improvements throughout. The Hall now features enhanced insulation, acoustic treatments to walls and ceilings, and a new technical sports floor complete with markings for both common sports and traditional Māori games like Tī Uru.

Accessibility was a key focus, with a new lift providing stage access, universal bathrooms catering for physically disabled students, and visual awareness aids for vision-impaired tamariki.

Johnsonville School Special Education Unit Upgrade

This interior upgrade of Johnsonville School's Special Education Unit demonstrates TEAM Architects Wellington's nuanced understanding of creating spaces that nurture children with special learning needs. The renovation encompassed two classrooms alongside breakout areas, kitchen, laundry, bathroom, and cloak spaces.

The design prioritises a safe, calm environment through thoughtful spatial planning and material choices. Each classroom incorporates unique spaces to serve multiple purposes, including cubby holes within joinery that provide hideaway spots where students can retreat while remaining visible to teachers. Tiered carpeted seating offers novel multi-height spaces for play and relaxation.
