Andrea Stevens has been a New Zealand contributing editor for Indesign since 2007. Curating projects and writing feature articles, she has presented commercial and residential architecture from Aotearoa to a Southeast Asian and Australasian audience.

The book Cape to Bluff traverses Aotearoa New Zealand from north to south to compose a unique portrait of residential architecture across the islands. A sense of place is at the core of the curatorial vision, featuring 30 exceptional houses that respond to, and are in harmony with, the land – its forms, its climate, its people. Landscapes range from alpine to coast, rural to city, the architects responding in poetic and pragmatic ways. This carefully crafted book is an exclusive window on some of the most interesting, ideas-driven projects of recent years.

Andrea co-authored this book with architectural historian and academic Bill McKay. It is a biography of the iconic ‘state house’, a phenomenon of New Zealand architecture and Labour’s socialism. Andrea is the author of part two, which is all about the state house today. She and photographer Simon Devitt documented fourteen houses from around the country, and present them in text and photographic essays.
